Simple Pea Pasta for Babies with FPIES & Allergies (Minimal Ingredients)
Jump to Recipe

🥣 Why This Recipe Works

When introducing foods with FPIES, simplicity and minimal is key.

This recipe is great because it:

  • Uses only a few ingredients
  • Keeps foods separate and identifiable
  • Is easy to adjust based on what your baby has already tolerated
  • Can be made smoother or chunkier depending on your baby’s stage

How to Introduce This Safely

If you are early in your food introduction journey:

  • Introduce one ingredient at a time first (peas and pasta separately)
  • Wait 3–5 days between new foods
  • Watch closely for any reactions
  • Keep portions small when trying something new

Once both foods are tolerated individually, you can combine them like in this recipe.

Important Notes for FPIES

  • Peas are considered a legume and can be a trigger for some children
  • Pasta ingredients vary, so make sure to check labels carefully for wheat, egg, or other allergens
  • Always follow the guidance of your child’s healthcare provider when introducing new foods

Every child is different, and what works for one may not work for another.

💡 Make It Work for Your Baby

You can easily adjust this recipe:

  • Thin it out more for early eaters
  • Leave it slightly textured for older babies
  • Use a previously tolerated grain if pasta isn’t safe yet

❤️ A Gentle Reminder

Feeding your baby with FPIES or allergies isn’t about doing everything perfectly, it’s about going slowly, learning your child’s safe foods, and building confidence over time.

Simple meals like this are a great place to start.

Course Main Course

Ingredients

  • 1 box Plain pasta (use a type your child has already tolerated, if possible) I use Barilla Pasta as there is generally no "may contain" items
  • 1 bag Frozen peas
  • 10 oz Water, breastmilk, or formula (for blending) 2 oz for blending, 8 oz for cooking

Instructions

  • Steam the peas: Cook frozen peas until they are soft and easy to mash.
  • Blend until smooth: Add peas to a blender with a small amount of water, breastmilk, or formula. Blend until you reach a smooth, puree-like consistency.
  • Prepare the pasta: Cook plain pasta until very soft. Smaller shapes or broken pieces work best for younger babies.
  • Combine: Mix the pea puree with the pasta until evenly coated.
  • Cool and serve: Let the mixture cool before serving.

An Allergy Mama on a Mission

As an allergy mama to an amazing daughter who has over 17 FPIES triggers, navigating allergies was something I never even imagined a year ago, and now I am able to cook anything from scratch and do whatever I can to keep my little girl safe.

When we first received our daughter’s FPIES diagnosis, I felt completely overwhelmed. The list of trigger foods seemed endless, grocery shopping became a two-hour ordeal of reading every single label, and I found myself crying in the kitchen more times than I care to admit. If you’re reading this, you might know exactly how that feels.

But here’s what I’ve learned: you are stronger than you think, and safe doesn’t mean boring.

Through countless hours of research, trial and error, and many sleepless nights worrying about reactions, I’ve discovered that cooking from scratch isn’t just possible – it’s empowering. I’ve learned to create versions of our family’s favorite meals that are not only safe for my daughter but delicious for our whole family.

This blog is my way of sharing that journey with you. Every recipe here has been tested in my own kitchen, approved by my little taste-tester, and created with the understanding that safety always comes first. You’ll find detailed allergen information, substitution suggestions, and the real-life tips that have made our FPIES journey manageable.

Whether you’re newly navigating this world like I was a year ago, or you’re a seasoned allergy parent looking for fresh meal ideas, I hope you’ll find recipes here that bring joy back to your kitchen and peace of mind to your table.

You’ve got this, mama. Let’s cook safely together.
